Hero Hunters is located outside the city limits of Asheville, NC. Our store is just minutes off the
I-40 Enka-Candler exit 44, and is convenient to many Western North Carolina towns. Visitors
enjoying the Scenic Blue Ridge Parkway can visit us by exiting the parkway at the North Carolina

OUR HISTORY:
Hero Hunter Comics celebrated it's 3 year anniversary in February, 2008. Prior to this the store
was owned and operated by someone else under the name Vanderbook Comics for twelve
years. Beginning as a used book store, and morphing over the years into a book/comic/sports
card shop, Vanderbooks served the interests of collectors of all kinds. After taking over, we
decided to make the place reflect our vision of a great comic book store. Everything that we love
about comics is represented here, and we continue to work to make it better for you. The store
has seen many changes, including a complete reorganization, the elimination of many
non-comic related items, subscription and special ordering services, regular store hours, new
signage, and a paint job Superman's Mama would be proud of.

OUR IDENTITY CRISIS:
Once the store's outside had changed, we realized that the name Vanderbooks no longer fit.
So we decided to change our name. Superheroes do it all the time, so we figured... why not us.
Why Hero Hunter Comics? First, we are purely a comic book store. The artistry and
storytelling that have inspired us for years remains the focus of our business. Despite the fact
that gaming has taken over many shops, we remain a purely comic related location, and
wanted that reflected in our name. HERO HUNTERS? The HERO part pays homage both to
the driving force behind the best comics ever written (what would comics be without them) and
to several of the Comic shops we frequented as kids. The HUNTERS was inspired by the
feeling you get when you find that last missing issue of your prized collection hiding in the back
of a yellowed old long box in some guys booth in a flea market. Have you ever traded ten
comics just to get that one last issue of your favorite title which came out before you started
collecting? Have you ever gone to six stores trying to find the variant sketch cover of the last
issue of a limited series? Have you ever stood in line at a con for three hours so to get your
first issue copy of ...whatever...signed by the creator? Then you know that one of the greatest
parts of collecting comics isn't the comic at all...it's the thrill of the hunt. We are happy to help
hunt down your treasures for you.
